I’ve always assumed someone out there in this country or on this planet was in charge of protecting us. Protecting me and my family from danger! Especially from dangerous and untested chemicals.
Well the truth is… NO ONE is protecting us. NO ONE.
Why? Isn’t that someone’s job?
You’d think so.
Well in a nutshell, the sole and initial noble reason (protect consumers, heal and help cure disease, provide and distribute food, preventative healthcare) these institutions (Big Pharma, Big Food, Government, FDA, CDC) were created has been replaced by the sole and greed filled drive to keep the institutions alive and money flowing into their pockets.
You and your children… me and my children… aren’t on or even close to their radar. Greed has prevailed and our world and health has paid the price.
This is a rude awakening. It’s scary. When I discovered the dangers of all the chemicals that lurked in my home, I was LIVID. I went through a mild depression. “Why, how can this happen?” How can we let it come to this? How did I not know? I’m potentially killing or making my children sick, because…
I. AM. IGNORANT.
I have awakened. I am now aware of their games. I will no longer play along.
The purpose of this post is to share with you what I have found regarding toxic chemicals so commonly found in every home. They are in cleaning products, beauty products, baby products, and even the very food we nourish our bodies with.
Men, women and children are all exposed to ingredients in personal care products every day: Personal care products including lotion, toothpaste, body wash, shampoo, deodorant and many other products that people use daily. On average, women use 12 personal care products a day, exposing themselves to 168 chemical ingredients. Men use six, exposing themselves to 85 unique chemicals. (Source)
Knowledge is power. Let’s start from the beginning, shall we?
A little chemical history:
- In 1976 the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) was a law enacted to provide regulatory guidelines for the EPA to address chemicals throughout their life cycle.
- Although this was a major step to provide urgent needed authority to protect human health and the environment, this law has failed miserably.
- When the TSCA was enacted, it grandfathered in 62,000 chemicals in use at that time (“existing chemicals”).
- Since that time… only 200 of these chemicals have been tested for human safety and only 5 banned since 1990. TSCA continues to allow chemical manufacturers to keep nearly 20% of the 80,000 chemicals secret. (Source)
The Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) is the principal law for managing chemicals in the U.S. This law was enacted in 1976 to provide a regulatory framework for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to address chemicals throughout their life cycle.
TSCA was heralded as a major step forward in providing urgently needed authority to protect human health and the environment from dangerous chemicals. However, 34 years on, policy makers and public health experts agree that TSCA has failed. Only 5 have been tested and removed from circulation!!! 5!!!!
One of the failings of TSCA is that it lacks mandatory safety requirements before a chemical can gain access to market. TSCA gives legal authority to the EPA to ban the manufacture and import of those chemicals that pose an unreasonable risk to human health or the environment. However, when TSCA was enacted it grandfathered in 62,000 chemicals in use at that time (“existing chemicals”), and since then, less than 200 of these have been tested for human safety — while only five have been banned since 1990. In fact, the EPA has reviewed the human health risks of only an estimated 2% of the 62,000 chemicals that were in use in 1976. Consequently, the vast majority of existing chemicals have never been evaluated for potential toxicity (beyond acute toxicity) to infants, children, developing fetuses, or adults. Are chemicals to blame for the increase in childhood diseases and disorders?
Let’s look at more facts:
- In 1999 1 in 500 children had autism
- Today 1 in 88 have autism.
The following diseases and health disorders are sky-rocketing!
- Childhood cancer
- Premature births
- Neurological issues
We must stop assuming there is a responsible power protecting us from harm. It is OUR responsibility to protect ourselves and our families.
This realization and awakening has fueled my passion to help mom’s out there that were just like me, poisoning their children without even knowing it. Gently guiding them to find the truth that will set them free.
Are you in?
If you haven’t yet watched the documentary, The Human Experiment, I urge you to watch it and become aware of what hidden dangers are lurking in your home. You can find it on Netflix – The Human Experiment.
Eliminate toxins in your household and protect your family! No one else will. We must take the bull by the horns and take responsibility for our health… it’s our job… our mission!
Live Hippily… and help stop the madness!!
P.S. I love to make my own makeup, skincare, hygiene, and cleaning supplies. This is the only way I KNOW what is in them and they in fact are clean and safe for my family. There is no guarantee even “Green” or “Natural” products are safe either! Read Dr. Mercola’s article about how “Green” cleaners are just as harmful as their grocery aisle counterparts.
